Mileage Showing:
Transmission: Automatic
MOT: Exempt
Launched in 1957 to replace the earlier 300C model the 300D was redesigned with a 4inch longer wheelbase and 6 window pillarless “phaeton” design.
Designed as a direct competitor to the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud and Bentley S3 the W189 300D featured the same 3 litre straight 6 engine found in the Mercedes-Benz 300SL sports car. Fitted with Bosch fuel injection as well as power assisted steering and brakes.
Available as a Phaeton saloon or convertible the 300D adopted the Adenauer nickname after Konrad Adenauer the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany who owned 6 examples during his 1949 to 1963 tenure.
Only 3,077 examples of the W189 were produced before it was replaced by the iconic 600 Pullman in 1962.
This example was sold new in 1960 to a Florida based lawyer before being imported to the UK in 1989. Dry stored in recent years by the current owner who acquired the car in 2016.
A rare and impressive piece of motoring history.
