Rarely seen in the UK the STI Type R Version 3 was aimed at homologation for rallying becoming the base for Prodrive's group N cars. Launched in 1997 and based on the 4 door Type RA model in a stiffer 2 door bodystyle. Upgrades include STI built engine with forged internals, closer ratio gears fitted into a toughened gearbox, intercooler water spray and Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD).

The body featured light weight panels, thinner glass, reduced insulation and upgraded interior including front seats emblazoned with '555' to celebrate Subaru's rallying pedigree. One of just 1371 models produced this Version 3 model finished in the iconic Sonic Blue is presented in what appears to be very original condition, still wearing its standard alloy wheels, spoiler and interior.

Supplied new in Kagawa, Japan in 1997 where it remained with its original owner until early 2025 where it was bought by a British collector and experienced importer of JDM cars. Fully UK registered and showing 0 former UK keepers as well as showing 156,000KM which equates to 97,000 miles. Mileage and Japanese ownership has been certified by BIMTA (documents included)

Once in the UK the car has been extensively detailed as well as a major service including timing belt, water pump and oil pump. The vendor advises he left the underside of the car without underseal as it was when it left Japan due to its originality and cleanliness.

Sold with receipts for parts bought by the UK owner as well as BIMTA documents confirming the cars ID, Japanese ownership and mileage as well as Japanese service book.
