Designed to be the sports offering from Vespa using its smallest and lightest frame with the addition of a dummy fuel tank above the spare wheel and fitted with a two-stroke 88.5cc engine with four speed gearbox allowing the Super Sprint 90 to hit a top speed of 60MPH. Just over 5,000 SS90s were produced, even less survive today making it one of the most sought after models for any Vespa fan.
This example was supplied new in Berwick to the then chairman of the Northumberland Vespa club before being sold to another club member and then onto the current keeper (also a club member) in 1977. Used regularly for 20 years before being taken off the road and stored before being restored at large expense to the current owner by Vespa specialists Mo-Tech Newcastle.
Finished in its original colours the vendor advises work includes rebuilding of the original engine and gearbox, new tyres, full respray in its original colour, retrimmed seat, rebuilt speedo (with mileage reset to zero) new exhaust and electrics overhauled.
Finished to a very high standard.
Although owned by the current owner since 1977 this SS90 fell off the DVLA records (common in vehicles left sorn without MOT for long periods of time in the 1980-1990s) and was re-registered with the help of a dating certificate from the Vintage Motor Scooter club in 2024. Also supplied with copy of record of deposit the current vendor paid (£5 against a total price of £60) in 1977.
