Launched in 1969 the Autobianchi A112 was an extremeley popular supermini with over 1.2 million produced by the time the model was replaced by the Y10 in 1985. The re-working sports version by Abarth was launched in 1971. Prepared by Fiat's motorsport division who increased engine stroke from 903cc to 982cc then later to 1050cc as well as adding twin choke carburettor, fast road camshaft and sports exhaust pushing power up to 70HP.
This series 3 model with its 1050cc engine was supplied new in Italy in 1976 where it spent most of its life and was used as a historic rally car including completing in the tarmac Trofeo A112 Abarth series in 2020,2021 and 2022 before being sold and exported to the UK where it was UK registered with the DVLA and the private registration GNZ 112.
Modifications and set up for tarmac rallies include wider arches for 5.5 inch wide wheels with stone guards to protect the President blue bodywork, Alloy sump guard and removable spotlights, the engine has an upgraded cam shaft, larger webber downdraft carburetor, free flow manifold and big bore exhaust taking power to 85bhp at the wheels.
Fitted with a Bacci Romano close ratio 4 speed gearbox with a paddle clutch, Giraldi adjustable suspension and strut brace, quick release steering wheel, uprated electronics with master kill switch, roll cage, sparco seats and plumbed fire extinguisher.
Sold with many Italian documents including homologation paperwork, Lancia certifcate of originality (similar to a british heritage certificate) and FIA passport.
